A Dewar’s Icon : The Origin of the Highball
In the 1890s, during his travels across New York, Tommy Dewar is said to have ordered a ‘ball’, then a common term for whisky, and requested it be served tall with soda and ice. This moment gave birth to the “Original Highball”, introducing Scotch whisky to a new generation of American drinkers and cementing our pioneering spirit in whisky innovation.
In 1902, John Dewar & Sons officially trademarked the term ‘High Ball’, securing our place in whisky history.
Today, the DEWAR’S Whisky Highball remains our most iconic serve, featuring DEWAR’S 12 or 15 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky with soda for a crisp, bright profile that showcases the signature smoothness and harmony that defines the House of DEWAR’S. From casual moments to elevated occasions, it’s whisky crafted with intention and enjoyed with character.
